Do what with this sandbag?

Partners Complete the following for time:
(Divide the work however you like)
1 Mile Sandbag Run 35
... 1 Mile Row
10 HSPU (sub db shoulder press)
10 Tire Flips
100 Double Unders (4 to 1 for singles)
100 Walking Lunges (Total steps)
Post total time.

This was my first "official" WOD.  As if that thought didn't have me nervous enough, the first thing I see on the Whiteboard is a friggin 1 Mile Sandbag Run. Great. An instructor named Chad, whom I found to be every bit as friendly and energetic as Chriss, did his best to explain the WOD as matter-of-factly as possible.  Still I was a bit worried.  Turns out it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought; though that first 400 meters with the sandbag, did make my lungs ache (I don't normally warm-up on runs, until a half-mile is already in the books). The Handstand pushups presented no real issue, as I've done pushups out the wazoo anyway. As this was a partner workout, me and my partner of the day James, jogged out to look for tires to flip.  As it turned out most of the lower weights were taken, so we had to use a tire "designed" for two.  250 lbs? No problem! It went surprisingly quick. As for the Double Unders, though I am jump-rope extraordinaire, (from years as child doing "Jump Rope For Heart) I still could not just yet get the timing down on them.  Sooooo, James and I (as he sucks at double unders as well) were relegated to 400 single jumps. This was actually a nice recovery, because again, I'm pretty friggin nice at single jumps in all their forms.  But, I will be doing double unders by the next WOD that involves them, and that's that. Now for the real pain.  What a great note to end on (note sarcasm). I absolutely abhor walking lunges.  There is no burn quite like them. And so much cardio at the same time! Luckily this was partner work as well, so only 50 for me. All in all not a bad day. It's actually been a day and my legs feel pretty good, which is surprising.  Could have something to do with the cooldown Chad led us through that involved stretching with bands, that personally I feel hurt almost as much as the damn lunges. Friday will bring new joy.....and pain.

So it begins....

Hey All,
So now I'm doing CrossFit.  Any of you that know me, already know that I tend to like the extreme side of fitness.  I don't mean zealotry that requires you devote your life to a particular fitness methodology, but moreso workout styles/routines that most folks simply can't keep up with.  Call it the elitist in me. The problem is, for the past year or so, I've had that elite fitness void. Sure I've enjoyed the killer workouts of P90X and Insanity....but I really missed the community aspect.  There's nothing like being around like-minded nutbags, willing to do workouts that they know full well, could result in nausea, vomiting, loss of consciousness, etc. I missed that. So after dallying with the idea of joining a Crossfit "box' for quite some time, I said this time it's gonna happen. Mind you, I have taken a CF course before.  But with the chaotic nature of my previous employer, committing to any kind of schedule was next to impossible. So this past Tuesday, I jumped in. The first person I met was Chriss, who is also the Founder/Co-Owner of  Trident. The man is an infectious ball of positive high-energy. Almost hard to believe he's a Former SEAL, and as such can kill you just as easily as high-fiving you, as he's known for doing (high-fiving, I mean). He has a very easygoing way about him, that  belies the pain you're about to feel. After my baseline, I was hooked. I knew right then, I'd found a new home.

I've actually already suffered through my first WOD (Workout Of the Day), but going forward I'll be writing the blog in the evening, to document the morning's work.  That way, I can get a better handle on how my body feels and document that as well.  I'm also using this blog as a accountability tool.  The current goal is 3 times a week, so if anyone that happens to read this notices only 1 or 2 posts, and we're on say Thursday, please feel to call me on it! I'd actually greatly appreciate it. With that being said, I'm in, and I'm ready to crush it........No Hands on Hips.  Let's go!
